Horitkultura Filipina 2018: The biggest horticultural show ever!

The Philippine Horticultural Society of the Philippines (PHSI) will be having its biggest show this year. It will be showcase of art also plants from the country as well as the latest trends in the plant industry. They also have guest exhibitors from other countries.

The event is made through the help of the Quezon Memorial Circle Administration, the Quezon City Government, Del Monte Philippines, Nutri-Asia, Villar Foundation and also DTI.

The even will cover a large area of the Quezon Memorial Circle with many exhibits and events.
It will be from February 2nd until the 11th. But the best time to go is on the earliest dates and the lastest dates.

There would be exhibits of wonderful plants and flowers and landscape exhibits and competition. There would also be a commercial area where you can buy some of the interesting plants shown.

They also encourage people to join their lectures and seminars. They will be free if you pay the the very minimal entrance fee.

The whole extent of the event will be at the following: Hardin ng mga Bulaklak, Tropical Garden, RUNNEX Garden, QCX and Rock Garden.

71st Mid-Year Orchid Show: Ti's the season for Waling-waling

The Philippine Orchid Society in cooperation with Quezon City government, Quezon City Memorial Administration with special participation of Del Monte, Philippines, Villar Sipag Foundation and other plant society presents to the gardening public the 71st Mid-Year Orchid and Garden Show from September 2nd to 16th, 2017 .

There will also be a trade fair, landscape exhibits, plant and orchid competitions, and daily lectures.

The venue of the exhibit and trade fair will be at the Hardin ng mga Bulaklak or Flower Garden which is near the East Avenue gate entrance.

Innovative Bonsai at the QCX

The Bonsai and Suiseki Alliance of the Philippines will having its National Show this coming July 22 and 29, 2017. The project is supported by the Quezon City Memorial Circle administration, Quezon City government , Department of Tourism  and Del Monte Philippines.

There would be seminars from July 22 to 23 and July 29 and 30 at the QCX Museum. Foreign and local speakers will discuss a wide range of topics about bonsai and suiseki . A commercial trade fair will be held at the nearby Planas Garden beside the QCX Museum.

CARACOL 2017: Dancing for Nature

Caracol is one event that was always near me but not quite. Caracol as far as I remember was done in Bangkal during the feast day of San Ildefonso. But being an active member of church when I was young, I was already in church during the whole event.

The origin of the name was derived from the Spanish word,” caracol” means “snail.” It’s hard to say whether the Caracol Festival was named because of its associations with nature, or because it cycles every year like the ridges on a snail’s shell.

According to some old-time Makati residents , the festival used to be held on the feast day of Saint Ildefonso around late January but eventually moved to late February and the usual street dancing is held in the morning but the festivities moved to Circuit Mall few years ago. The participants paraded on Hippodromo street and culminated with dance competition held at the activity area of Circuit Mall.

Philippine Orchid Society’s 71st Annual Orchid Show

Philippine Orchid Society had its 71st annual orchid and garden show from February 25 to March 7, 2017.

There were the daily schedules of workshop and talks at the upcoming orchid show . The lectures and workshop is part of the awareness and public lecture conducted by the organization .

The first stop we had was at the commercial section, which sometimes has more interesting plants and flowers than the exhibits themselves.

The orchid show for sometime now has also been a place to see pets like bantam chickens.

There are plant based products that are also selling stuff.

The Ikebana Society of Manila with cooperation with the Japan Embassy And Shangri-la Plaza Mall had a show for ikenobo.

69th Mid-Year Philippine Orchid Show by the Philippine Orchid Society

August 3, 2015, and it's once more the Philippine Orchid show. By this time waking up is no longer a problem but the problem arises because I have to leave the show as soon as possible for we need to fetch our Buddhist Master at the airport.

It's another great day to see beautiful flowers and plants.

This year the Philippine Orchid Society went big. They have more exhibits and more flowers to showcase the beauty of Philippine flowers and ornamental plants, thus the name Folora Filipina.

Featured are some of the native and dear collections of the members of this society.

There are books and magazines by the society. They are full of wonderful articles and pictures of some of the rare and wonderful orchids we have.

Now I want you yo indulge in the pictures. I will be writing really less.

The Joy of Urban Farming at the Quezon Memorial Circle

This is the project of Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte. It's goal is to make sure that poor families will have food on their tables by encouraging urban farming.

They will teach communities on the proper ways of propagating greens that can be harvested by simple people.

They offer seeds, seedlings and even plants for their visitors.

Aromateria Rudyard Solid Perfume

I was on the look for a new solid perfume. I love solid perfumes because they are compact and don't spill inside your bag.

A few months ago I lost a Lush's Dirty Solid perfume after eating at McDonalds with friends. It was quite expensive but what is lost is lost. So I went back to looking for a new perfume at lush stores. Sadly they don't have the solid perfume I was looking for. I've tried their branches at Shangri-Land two at Makati.

So I implored the help of google for where to buy solid perfumes. And maybe look for an cheaper alternative.

I saw that there is this thing called Aromateria. It looks promising for just Php 250.00. So I headed to this store at Makati. It's one store that intimidates me. Everything in it looked expensive and rare. I saw the perfume quickly and sniffed at the ones they have. I went to work buying the one named Rudyard.

Aromateria's Rudyard is bamboo, sandalwood and incense. It also suits the smell I was looking of organic, earthy and natural. Not too fake or too musky.

Joy of Urban Farming (Quezon City Memorial Circle)

Yes, weirdly enough there is an Urban Farm in the heart of Quezon City. It's called Joy of Urban Farming. I will let the name there sink in and you know who made this project go. Politicians in the Philippines like to add their honorable names on anything.

Anyways the idea is simple. Encourage people to plant their own food. But like any wonderful government project I bet none of you have heard of it's very existence.

But I am a living proof that it exists. You can actually ask help and advice from their farmers about how to start your very own farm using recycled materials as pots.

Looking around the area it seems promising until I found the skeletons in the closet.

Now I dare you look into the skeletons that I saw. If you see the skeletons then you know that this project is in need of more promotion and more honesty.

What is the JOY of Urban Farming?

Aims:
1. To have an alternative source of food and to alleviate the number starving people.
2. To encourage gardening and to give enough nutrition.
3. To additional means of earning money and the same time job opportunities.
4. To aid in the care of nature.

The JOY of Urban Farming was launched last September 27, 2010 and it continuously gives free training, free seedlings and the build-up of "seedling banks" to encourage people on farming.
