FREE Entrance at the Philippine National Museum for the whole Month of May 2015

The National Museum of the Philippines goes FREE for this month of May 2015 in celebration of National Heritage Month.

You can visit the two Museums for FREE and its waiving its normal free of Php 150.00. That is a lot of savings and at the same time you learn more and be closer to the once rich Philippine culture that has obviously decayed.

See the great Masters of painting, architecture, sculpture and their works on display and marvel how Manila was and what we can do to save it from our jejemon culture, capitalistic mindset of throw away this and that, and the idea that art is for the rich alone.

So instead of wasting your money and time at the mall. Just go to the National Museum and update yourself with so much culture and beauty. BTW the two Museums are fully air-conditioned.

The National Museum of the Philippines
Tuesday-Sunday, 11am-5pm.

Visita Iglesia 2015

So what is the best way to do on a Thursday morning? Hit the road by myself and not join any of those tours led by heritage people. Sometimes they really get on my nerves.

Anyways, I took the jeep going to Malate Church. My first stop. Everything I have in mind was quite random.

The Quezon Heritage House at the Quezon City Memorial Circle

Right in the heart of Quezon City is one of the houses once owned by the Quezon Family. It was their rest house at New Manila. The house is 60% since most of the structure cannot be saved during the move.

The lot used to have this house is now a condo. Good thing the city of Quezon City bought the house and relocated it. Now that is one story of proper conservation. It is now a Museum and you can drop by and see the weekend house of the Quezons.

We go up the second floor like privileged visitors.

They have machuca tiles, hand painted tiles.

The APO Heritage Postal Tour goes to the Grand Marian Parade

It was a good day and despite the warnings in the sky of dark clouds I made myself go to the tour. I made my way past the deteriorating Metropolitan Theater then under the over pass that runs in fron of the Liwasang Bonifacio.

These dogs have their home here with their furr-parents. But that is not the goal of today.

Philpost has put up their seasonal greetings once more.

Then I saw this cat one more while the rest of the guys stated to talk about the architectural importance and built of the Post Office.

Since we have a small crowd I decided to sneak them to the open court yard at the 3rd floor. I know its not allowed but the try is worth it. Then there are the lock boxes or PO boxes and they are still for rent.

We crossed the street going to the National Press Club.

I pestered some cats and took shots of them.

We then paid a visit to the statue of Queen Isabella II of Spain.

Even at this point there are many buses and even the military is here for Mary and her procession.

People are like from everywhere. And this is going to be a big parade.

People were every where, even crept up to the monuments of Plaza Mexico, the once place of the Manila-Acapulco galleon trade.

Morosi Theater Manila

If you take the regular LRT rides you will see this interesting ruins between Gil Puyat (Buendia) station and Vito Cruz. You will not miss it because it tends to stand out among the other structures that surround it.

It's always mentioned in many forums but few people can tell me about its history and the internet lacks any information about it.

One of the things I heard is that after the World War II. The theater was converted into a car repair shop and now seeing it again with its walls trying its hard to stand and its facade still battling the weather. I can see that structures inside were torn down.

What will ever happen to this Art deco building near Buendia? From the smart and nice people of Manila Nostalgia I was able to learn that this building is called the Morosi Theater.

What kind of Theater was the Morosi Theater? How many people in it have died and also found love and inspiration from watching a play or a movie?

What I missed at the National Museum!

It's because I often assume and not ask questions I never learned of this place at the National Museum. I usually go the the second floor of the Legislative building.

Then I asked, "Is there more art at the upper floors?" Then they told me. "Yes!"

OMG! There I saw more art, I ignored the modern artworks and focused on the Master's paitings and sculptures. This is also where you can see many of the Amorsolo Paintings, the panel paintings once found at the Philham Life building by Manansala and the Parisian Life by Juan Luna (once found at the Bahay Nakpil-Bautista).

So you missed the Museums and Galleries month at the National Museum of the Philippines?

Fear not? For behold the Philippine National Museum continues to give its people the freedom to go in and look for FREE every Sunday. Again this is to promote information and at the same time showcase some of the treasures of the Philippine culture and history. It's a nice place to hang around rather than waste time at the mall or the fucking coffee shops that some idiots like.

The Philippine National Museum has also put up some new exhibits especially in the old Legislative building. Soon a new building is to be opened.

Here are some of the things you can see at the old Legislative building.

The Padilla Art Gallery and ancestral house at Quiapo

Quiapo is one of the oldest districts of Manila nad is now known as a place where you can buy bootleg or pirated CDs of almost anything. Despite the fact that its illegal bootleg heaven still exists despite the raids being done there, It is also a place for the Muslims and their wares. Also a place for the followers of the Black Nazarene.

Many even forget that old families have lives here for hundreds of years. Proud families of rich lineage and their old houses. Despite the rotting nature of some of the houses. There are of course some houses that refuse to die and continues to live as a living proof of Quiapo as a place of wonder.

The Padilla House is located on Hidalgo Street just beyond Bakerite. It's hard to miss.

We were welcomes by its current owner Mr. Manny Padilla who is an artists who wants to tell the story of Quiapo in painting. He is an artists who doesn't sign his work but paints himself and some of his family into each art work.

If you are interested to visit the Gallery you can inquire at the computer shop located downstairs. There is small fee to be paid and you will see how the owner has tried to save and maintain his wonderful house.
