According to the Philippine Orchid Society's facebook page:
The months of August and September are the blooming season for the world famous 'Waling-waling.' Scientifically known as Vanda sanderiana, the 'Waling-waling' is renowned worldwide as the 'Queen of all Orchids' because it has greatly influenced the breeding of modern day vandas that are popular in the orchid cut-flower and potted orchid trade. It is a Philippine endemic species, particularly from Mindanao, that is responsible for giving the large saucer size blooms to its off springs. And, because of this very desirable trait, the 'Waling-waling' has been heavily gathered from the wild and is now considered critically endangered threatened.
This also a great chance to take pictures of plants and flowers rarely seen in the concrete jungle. A chance to admire the treasures we have that many countries would die to have as well. Yes, it would also wonderful to have them posted on your Instagram and social media for the many likes it will generate and because flowers are nice to look at as well. And please do not touch the flowers they are real and this also gives the flowers the chance to last until the 16th for many people to admire as well.
